Who are we?

ICE is Cambridge University's improvised comedy society. We put on a selection of shows each term, and run improv workshops to teach you how to be good improvisers. Unlike other 'drama' societies, we love you even if you don't live and breathe the theatre. We also don't care how good or bad you think you are; anyone from the workshops can get a chance to gain their stage legs if they want to, in our regular shows.

Anyone can be funny and we'll teach you how!

What is improv?

You're funny. No, really; you are. If you've ever made a spontaneous pun in the pub with your friends or recounted a funny story to your family you have made people laugh. All improvised comedians do is take the humour from the pub to the stage and, amazingly, people start to think you are an incredibly talented comedian. We do this by acting out scenes from everyday life with some twist. Perhaps you can only speak three words at a time, perhaps you can only ask questions, perhaps you even have to try to sell water wings in the desert! String these scenes together into a coherent narrative and you've got a show. No rehearsals, no writing, no problems.

The great thing about improv is people will laugh when you do it well and also laugh if you make a mistake – you can't lose!
